While the same pair of pinhole glasses can be used by anyone, and everyone who wears them will benefit from their eye relaxing properties, not everyone will see exactly the same thing when looking through them.
Pinhole glasses block out the peripheral light that enters the eye, causing the light that enters the eye to land directly on the retina. This means that the wearer will be able to see an object clearly when they’re looking through one of the holes.
But what about the overall experience? What does wearing pinhole glasses feel like?
Putting Pinhole Glasses On
First of all I want to make it clear that using pinhole glasses is not like wearing traditional glasses or even sunglasses. You will not have the same visual clarity. Pinhole glasses distort your vision somewhat and take some getting used to. But once you adjust (and it doesn’t take very long) you’ll almost forget they’re there, and you’ll be able to automatically relax your eyes.
When you first the pinhole glasses on, you may experience what’s known as the “honeycomb effect.” When you look through the lens, it will seem like you’re looking through a slightly distorted piece of dark glass.
It takes some getting used, but with some adjustments you can use them for most of the activities that you would normally need glasses for, like reading or watching TV,
It is extremely important that I mention that you CAN NOT use pinhole glasses while driving. The nature of pinhole glasses is that they cut our peripheral light – and that includes peripheral vision. Lack of peripheral vision severely affects your depth perception.
But besides for driving, pinhole glasses can be used almost anywhere else. The best guidelines to follow are the warnings they put on alcohol and not use pinhole glasses when involved in those activities (like driving and operating heavy machinery).
Wear them in good health!
